bajacaliforniamap

 Total 15 nights

Day 1
Arrival Los Angeles

Welcome to Los Angeles. On the eve of this incredible journey you will meet up with your fellow riders for an orientation meeting at the hotel as we prepare to ride through some of the greatest and undisturbed desert roads left in North America. Your tour guide will provide you a thorough overview of what to expect in the coming days and answer any last minute questions you may have. I’m sure there may also be cold drink or two to be shared.

Overnight - Los Angeles

Day 2
Los Angeles to Ensenada

After our welcome breakfast we pick up our motorcycles from EagleRider. Shortly after we are on the road cruising south along the California coastline to the border at Tijuana, Mexico. About an hour after we have entered Mexico we will reach our final destination for today, the bustling port town of Ensenada. Tonight we will enjoy a delicious gourmet dinner made fresh from the local catch. Watch the sunset over Ensenada Bay and it won’t take you long to realize you are on the cusp of something special.

Overnight - Ensenada

Day 3
Ensenada to Catavina

We head south on Mexico Highway 1 leaving the busy border towns behind as we ride south. We dive deeper into Baja where Cirio trees and giant Cardon cacti begin to appear alongside the road. We enter the Vizcaino Desert, one of the most fascinating desert regions on this continent, and experience expansive views of boulder formations, rugged hills and dense desert vegetation. We arrive in Catavina just in time to watch the desert sunset behind huge boulders and Cardon cacti. We have a long ride tomorrow so be sure to get a good night’s rest.

Overnight - Catavina

Day 4
Catavina to San Ignacio

Today we cross the state line from Baja Norte into Baja Sur. You will notice a change in landscape as we ride over several 3,000 foot summits, past flat topped volcanic cones and cactus covered hills into the charming pueblo San Ignacio, an authentic desert oasis located at the bottom of a wide arroyo with date palms and a natural spring fed pond where we overnight.

Overnight - San Ignacio

Day 5
San Ignacio to Loreto

Ahead of us this morning is the massive ‘Volcan Las Tres Virgenes’ which tells us the origin of recent lava flows around us. We descend Devils Grade, seven miles of switchbacks that take us down to the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez. Winding along the shores beautiful Bahia Conception, one further scenic delight of Baja California, with deep-blue waters, volcanic islands and isolated beaches. In the afternoon we reach Loreto which is the oldest Spanish settlement along the West Coast. The town offers a picturesque central plaza, shopping and a selection of excellent restaurants.

Overnight - Loreto

Day 6
Loreto to Los Barriles

Today we ride along the base of the Sierra de la Giganta Mountains and then rapidly climb up to the summit past hat-shaped mountain peaks crossing the peninsula back to the Pacific Coast. We reach the Santa Domingo Valley and move back across the peninsula until we reach the small fishing village of Los Barriles on the Sea of Cortez. Take a walk on the white sand beach and see for yourself that this is one of the prettiest towns in Mexico.

Overnight - Los Barriles

Day 7
Los Barriles to Cabo San Lucas

Under the shadow of Cerro del Venado we roll into San Jose del Cabo and down the coast of Bahia San Lucas which was a favorite hiding place for pirates who laid in wait for Spanish treasure ships in the 16th and 17th century. Today our destination is the popular resort town of Cabo San Lucas and we are here to enjoy it all. Just before arriving in Cabo we get a view of ‘Land’s End,' the southernmost tip of the Baja peninsula!

Overnight - Cabo San Lucas

Day 8
Cabo San Lucas

Today is at leisure to enjoy the stark and stunning scenery of Baja’s dramatically beautiful southern tip – rocks, water and big blue sky of this picture perfect destination. Take a sport fishing charter, visit Lands’ End, or simply enjoy a day on the beach. Los Cabos has a by-the-seaside feel that is distinctly Mexican, aided immeasurably by the unspoiled grandeur of its desert setting.

Overnight - Cabo San Lucas

Day 9
Cabo San Lucas to La Paz

It’s time to head back north again as we ride along the Pacific coastline to the small artist's community of Todos Santos. Here you can spend some time walking around town visiting art galleries and souvenir shopping. Have some fresh fish tacos at one of the small taco stands or enjoy a gourmet lunch at the famous Hotel California. After lunch we head back to the Sea of Cortez and the capital city of La Paz, which is considered one of the Baja’s most beautiful cities.

Overnight - La Paz

Day 10
La Paz to Loreto

Today we continue north through the desert on Hwy 1 through Ciudad Constitucion where we stop for lunch. Our afternoon ride will take us east across the broad desert expanse over to the coast of the Sea of Cortez and Loreto. Loreto was the departure point from which Junipero Serra launched his northward quest in 1769 to establish a chain of missions in Alta California.

Overnight - Loreto

Day 11
Loreto to Guerrero Negro

We continue north on Mexico Highway 1 with Conception Bay on our right. We'll stop at one of the beautiful sandy coves where you can take a dip in the warm waters. Lunch will be in the small village of Mulege, a cute traditional Mexican Town located at the mouth of a river. Back on the road we ride via Santa Rosalia to San Ignacio where we take an ice cream break in the town plaza. From San Ignacio we continue across the barren Vizcaino desert to our hotel in the town of Guerrero Negro, just south of the Baja California Sur state border. The area around Guerrero Negro is part of the El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993. Encompassing bays, lagoons, vast expanses of the Sonoran Desert and the rugged Sierra Mountains. Scammon's Lagoon is an important breeding and birthing site for the California gray whale.

 Overnight - Guerrero Negro

Day 12
Guerrero Negro to San Quintin

Our ride continues north on Highway 1 through the vast desert landscape of Valle de los Cirios. The desert is full of a large variety plants including the Dr. Suess-looking Cirio tree. After a lunch stop in Catavina we wind through twisty roads back toward the Pacific coast and finally to our beach front hotel in San Quintin where a beachside bonfire and cold drinks awaits us.

Overnight - San Quintin

Day 13
San Quintin to Ensenada

We leave the beautiful beach of San Quintin and are on our way to Ensenada. The port city boasts a scenic setting, pleasant weather, duty free shopping, fine sport fishing and close proximity to the United States. Just outside of Ensenada is Valle de Guadalupe, Baja Mexico’s premier wine country. Your tour guide can arrange for a wine tasting tour if you wish to treat yourself to some of Mexico’s selections. Enjoy your last evening south of the border.

Overnight - Ensenada

Day 14
Ensenada to San Diego

Today your trip will take you back into the Unites States. We take Hwy 3 out of Ensenada and enjoy a scenic ride through the vineyards of Valle de Guadalupe towards the Mexico/U.S. border at Tecate. Once back in the US, we’ll ride through some great motorcycle roads in the eastern San Diego countryside as we make our way to the hotel in Downtown San Diego. We will arrive in the early afternoon allowing plenty of time for a walk along the beautiful waterfront embarcadero. The San Diego metro area is a cultural oasis – and may well be your prototypical Southern California city. Visually, it brings to life the timeless images evoked by the Beach Boys’ 1965 pop classic, “California Girls”: sunshine, sand, and palm trees. The weather is close to ideal – sunny and mild to warm, practically year-round.

Overnight - San Diego

Day 15
La Paz to Loreto

Our final day of riding takes up the San Diego coastline toward our LAX EagleRider location in Los Angeles. We'll ride the famous Coast Highway 101 through north San Diego County stopping at one of the beautiful beaches for a photo opportunity. After a lunch stop we'll head into Los Angeles. It is a bitter sweet feeling as it is now time to return our bikes at EagleRider‘s LAX location with images of Baja swirling in our heads.

Overnight - Los Angeles
